Sports Medicine Fellowship Teaching Faculty Position—Cone Health, Greensboro NC

The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Moses Cone Hospital, a tertiary care, community teaching hospital that is part of Cone Health in Greensboro, N.C. seeks an academic B/C Sports Medicine physician to join our faculty team. Our program began in 1992 with our first fellow graduating in 1993. We were among the first programs to be fully accredited by the ACGME and have consistently received long reaccreditation periods. Our program has trained more than 60 fellows in the skills necessary to begin the practice of sports medicine in any setting.

The Fellowship is a fully accredited program affiliated with Cone Health Family Medicine Residency, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Greensboro Area Health Education Center. We accept two fellows per year through the NRMP Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Match. We have trained additional fellows when needed by area colleges or by the US military.

Graduates of our program feel well trained no matter where they end up practicing. We have graduates who are sports medicine program directors and residency faculty, team physicians for major universities, who work in orthopedic offices, who work in primary care offices and who practice in solo, rural settings. No matter what their destination, we can help tailor the program to fit their ultimate needs.

We ensure that each fellow gets extensive experience in performance of ultrasound and become proficient in using extracorporeal focused shock wave therapy for MSK injury.  We hope to incorporate any new innovations within this technology as they come to clinical use.

The Cone Health Sports Medicine Fellowship provides a balanced experience, including clinical care in primary care sports medicine, orthopedics, and preventive medicine. Our program helps the fellow:

  • Strengthen academic skills to critically review articles, write effectively for publications, and understand the basics of sports medicine research.
  • Maintain family practice skills while developing skills as a team physician at the collegiate and high school level.

Sports Medicine fellows gain experience in sports preparticipation and wellness, treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, sideline and mass participation coverage and coordination of sports and exercise with other treatments in athletes with chronic disease. Completion of the Fellowship allows the physician to sit for the Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.

Our core Faculty are dedicated clinician-educators who are well supported to serve as instructors and mentors to. Clinical reasoning, evidence-based medicine, and the practical use of medical informatics are emphasized. Physician wellness and fostering resiliency are highly valued.
